Muschamp: It's the hardest thing I've ever said

Will Muschamp will commence fifteen on-field practice opportunities of building toughness as spring ball begins at 4:25 PM on Friday in Gainesville.

As director of strength & conditioning Jeff Dillman would say, "The green light is on."

In his wildest dreams, Muschamp never imagined he would be the leader of a football team that could be labeled as 'soft,' but that's exactly what the Muschamp thinks about the Gators' team last season.

Muschamp told the Sporting News, "It's the hardest thing I've ever said. But you go back and look at it, and we didn't consistently stop the run and we weren't able to run the ball. You can attribute it to multiple factors. We've tried to address that with our strength program, recruiting and overall numbers at multiple positions."

Gone are Charlie Weis and offensive line coach Frank Verducci.  Muschamp replaced Weis with Brent Pease and hired Tim Davis to coach the offensive line.

7-6 won't cut it at Florida and Muschamp isn't sugar-coating much.

Reflecting on his first season, Muschamp said, "Disappointing, disastrous, whatever adjective you want to throw on it. There are Gator fans that could probably think of some worse ones."

"People want to look at our year and say you were 7-6? Really, let's look at the last two years: we're a 15-11 team. Let's be realistic here. Urban Meyer is a heckuva football coach; he won two national championships here. But there was a one-game difference from this year to (his) last year. We're in transition. Are we headed in the right direction? I emphatically think we are."

Florida will host their coaches' clinic in conjunction with the start of spring practice.  Coaches can watch the Gators practice on Friday and Saturday.
