Updated: 2011 - 2012 assistant coaching hires
Houston Texans: Former Colorado State wide receivers / special teams coordinator Dan Hammerschmidt has accepted the offensive assistant position with the Houston Texans. Offensive assistants Marc Lubick and Jim Ryan have been promoted. Lubick will serve as the assistant wide receivers coach, while Ryan will serve as the assistant offensive line coach.
Ole Miss: Former Arkansas State corners / special teams coordinator Corey Batoon has officially joined the staff at Ole Miss as assistant athletic director for player development. Likewise, former Arkansas State wide receivers coach Tyler Siskey has joined the staff as the coordinator of recruiting development. Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze officially took care of each of his assistants from Arkansas State. Sure, some assistants had to move off-the-field, but Freeze ought to be commended for making sure each of his former assistants landed on their feet. This doesn't always happen in college football.
Chattanooga: I have just learned that Georgia strength & conditioning grad assistant Thomas Brown has accepted the runnung backs job at Chattanooga.
Indianapolis Colts: Chuck Pagano has retained Clyde Christiensen, but Christiensen will serve only as the quarterbacks coach. Bruce Arians is the new offensive coordiantor.
North Texas: I'm hearing Montana State co-defensive coordinator / defensive backs coach Noah Joseph will be joining the North Texas staff. Joseph will coach the defensive backs with Justin Gaines. Anthony Weaver is no longer with the staff.
UTEP: Sources tell me Mike Price may turn to a former head coach to fill the safeties position at UTEP.
Oregon State: Former Indianapolis Colts assistant Rod Perry has officially accepted the defensive backs job at Oregon State.
Penn State: Bill O'Brien agreed to a 5-year deal will a $955,000 salary this year. He will receive a 5% increase in salary each year. O'Brien also receives $1 million in TV / radio contracts annually and $350,000 annually from Nike.
Kansas City Chiefs: Former Indianapolis assistant Jim Bob Cooter has accepted the offensive quality control with the Chiefs. Also, assistant head coach Maurice Carthon, tight ends coach Bernie Parmalee, and wide receivers coach Nick Sirianni have been retained.
St. Louis Rams: Jeff Fisher has hired former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil as defensive backs coach.
North Carolina: Sources tell me Illinois assistant strength coach Zac Womack has accepted an assistant strength job at North Carolina.
UCONN: Sources tell me UCONN has an offensive quality control opening.
Lamar University: Sources tell me Edmonton Eskimos running backs coach Dennis McKnight has accepted the offensive line job at Lamar.
South Florida: Sources tell me that Skip Holtz is interviewing a candidate today for the wide receivers job.
Georgia Tech: I am told that it's possible that Paul Johnson will hire former Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen to the fill the opening on the offensive side of the ball at Georgia Tech.
NC State: As first mentioned on the Coaching Search Ticker very early Saturday morning, Air Force running backs coach Des Kitchings is indeed expected to take the running backs job at NC State.
Gardner-Webb: Sources tell me former Ole Miss offensive grad assistant Alan Hensell has accepted a position on the offensive side of the ball at Gardner-Webb. Hensell assisted Mike Markuson with the offensive line at Ole Miss.
Chattanooga: Sources tell me Itawamaba CC offensive line / recruiting coordinator Alex Atkins has accepted the offensive line job at Chattanooga.
Utah Blaze (Arena): Former Weber State head coach Ron McBride (72) has ended his retirement to join the Utah Blaze as offensive line coach.
Northwestern State (LA): Sources tell me that former Southeastern Louisiana assistant Matthew Powledge has accepted the running backs job. Jacob Simon will shift from running backs to wide receivers.
Weber State: I'm told that John L. Smith will round out his staff in the next several days. Here are the coaches that have already accepted positions at Weber State: Eric Lewis (defensive backs), Jason Belford (defensive line), Justin Rascati (quarterbacks), Craig Stutzmann (wid receivers), Matt Hammer (offensive coordinator), Cecil Thomas (offensive line), Colton Swan (linebackers).
