Posted by: Josh Kendall on November 16, 2012 Oklahoma State put up 55 points and 443 yards this weekend while starting its third-string quarterback, but the Cowboys coaching staff is not worried about the numbers, Todd Monken said. "We just talk toughness, effort, discipline, no excuses, finish," Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach said after his team beat West Virginia. "There are not stats. There is nothing about that, you just play that way and you give yourself a chance." Opponents are noticing, Monken said. "You hear that from a lot of teams we play, 'We are trying to get our guys to play as hard as your team plays,'" Monken said. Oklahoma State is 6-3 and has tried to keep thing simple while watching its first two quarterback options go down with injuries. "All we've tried to do is get 11 guys on the field, not have pre-snap penalties, do it better than they defend it," Monken said. "There is not one time yet that we have not had enough to have a chance to win a game. We have found a way to screw some things up in our losses, but it's not because we haven't moved the ball." One of the main challenges for the offensive coaching staff this season has been finding ways to continue to get the ball to wide receiver Josh Stewart, who has 69 catches this year. "When you have a good player, they know it's coming, but you can't stop getting it to him. You can't just say, 'Well, we can't.' No, you have to because they are the guys who can help you win," Monken said. "That's what everybody does in the country. We just try like heck to do that."
